Welcome to the Currituck County
UDO Update Web Site
This web site is your place for information and announcements during the county process to comprehensively update its Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The primary purpose of this project is to implement the county’s recently completed Land Use Plan, small area plans, make the UDO more user friendly, and to modernize development standards. Your participation and input can make a real difference in determining how Currituck County will grow, develop, and redevelop.
How will the Process Work?
The UDO update process kicks-off in November 2009 under the guidance of the county’s Planning Department and the Board of County Commissioners. An Advisory Committee will also assist in the project. The county has hired a team led by Clarion Associates, a national land use and zoning consulting firm with offices in North Carolina, Florida, Denver, and Chicago, to assist the community with this process.
The comprehensive UDO update will be carried out in three phases. The first phase will involve a questionnaire, public meetings and interviews to gather input for the UDO update, along with a Citizens’ Preference Survey which will be conducted at several public meetings. The Questionnaire is available on the website for citizens to respond to. The Citizens’ Preference Survey will be placed on the website at the Citizens’ Preference Survey tab for citizens to respond to in January 2010. During Phase 2, the Clarion team will produce a code assessment that identifies needed amendments to the UDO. The third phase will involve actual drafting of the revised UDO. Read more about the UDO update process and the schedule on the FAQs tab.
Work Products
Look for copies of work products and power point presentations from each project phase on the Work Products page. New work products will be listed as soon as they are available.
